Budgam: Dreaded Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa, involved in the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack 2025, was killed by security forces in an encounter in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Musa was killed in Yusmarg area of Budgam during a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). According to the Army's Chinar Corps, Musa's body and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition have been recovered after the encounter. As soon as he was killed, Pakistan was once again exposed.

Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid described Musa as a highly trained terrorist. According to a report by Times of India, he said that traces of Musa were found in several attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Musa was considered the mastermind of the Pahalgam attack. He was a Pakistani citizen. He had expertise in fighting guerrilla warfare in the jungle.
Musa was a SSG commando in Pakistan Army.
After the death of Moses, a very important thing about his background has come to light. He had direct relations with Pakistan Army. Quoting security agency sources, it was said that Musa had worked as SSG Para Commando of Pakistan Army. He was posted on the post of Havildar. After retiring from SSG in 2023, he joined the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and infiltrated into India.
Former DGP Vaid said that Musa was an expert in ambush attacks and making guerrilla war strategies. He said that Musa was also involved in the Poonch, Bhimber Gali, Gulmarg attacks and the attack on devotees in Reasi. Musa was considered the main suspect in the Pahalgam attack. He was in the most wanted list of Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had filed a 1597-page charge sheet in this case against seven accused including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front (TRF). Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt has also been made an accused in the charge sheet.
How was Hashim Musa killed?
After receiving intelligence about terrorists in Yusmarg area of Budgam, security forces launched Operation Koraag. During this operation, the soldiers observed suspicious activity and challenged the terrorists. Giving a befitting reply to the firing by the terrorists, the security forces killed Musa in the encounter. After the encounter ended, Chinar Corps teams recovered his body and ammunition from Palmmaidan area. In view of the possibility of presence of other terrorists in the surrounding area, the search operation is going on.
