The Supreme Court has made important comments regarding the use of firecrackers before Diwali. The court has said that there will not be a complete ban on firecrackers, but a balance will have to be struck between religious sentiments and health and environment.
The Supreme Court, while hearing the case related to the use of firecrackers before Diwali, said that it will find a solution by striking a balance between religious sentiments and health and environmental concerns.
During the hearing, Justice MM Sundaresh said that a complete ban across the country would hurt some religious sentiments. “We are not in favor of a complete ban across the country, but we will also not allow bursting of firecrackers 24 hours a day anywhere as it affects the sick, elderly and children,” he said.
Justice Sundaresh clearly said that the court will find a solution that is balanced for everyone. The Supreme Court said that it will find a solution in which a time limit is fixed for bursting of firecrackers and it is also made clear which firecrackers will be allowed to be used. That is, it will also be decided which type of firecrackers can be burnt and which will be banned.
In this case, the court has given time to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Central Government to conduct more tests to check the presence of barium in the firecrackers.
Along with this, the court said that their decibel level should also be determined by conducting a combined fire test of the firecrackers. This will enable us to know how much noise firecrackers produce and what effect it has on health.
The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing of the case on October 15. By then CPCB and Central Government will have to present their report and test results.
Every year around Diwali, the pollution level in Delhi increases significantly, due to which the demand for ban on firecrackers has been rising. But on the other hand there is also the question of religious sentiments. In such a situation, this balanced stance of the Supreme Court is considered important.
