Amidst Middle East tension, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technology and other areas of mutual interest. They reiterated their resolve to advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and agreed to maintain close contacts to further deepen cooperation for the benefit of the people of both countries.
PM Modi and Trump also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Discussed ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security. Apart from this, both the leaders also agreed to remain in touch.

First talks after 100 percent tariff bill
Recently the US Parliament passed the 'Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026'. This bill has a provision to impose 100 percent tariff on the five largest buyers of oil from Russia, including China and India. After the passage of the bill, India had clearly stated that this step could have an impact on bilateral relations.
Has America restrained itself?
Amidst this development, PM Modi and Trump spoke on phone on Wednesday. Compared to last year, this year Donald Trump and his team exercised restraint towards India. Last year, when America had imposed 50 percent tariff on India, not only Donald Trump but also Finance Secretary Scott Besant and Trump's advisor Peter openly targeted New Delhi. But this time the language is limited.
