Alan Ritchson’s Helldivers Delayed, but Sony Gives It a Prime New Date

Sony shifted Alan Ritchson's Helldivers to a date that could make it a much bigger hit. The studio reshuffled its 2027-2028 calendar, giving the PlayStation adaptation a strategic new window alongside several other major release date changes.

Helldivers moves from November 2027 to the summer 2028 movie calendar

Sony’s Helldivers movie starring Alan Ritchson has shifted its release date from November 10, 2027, to June 9, 2028, according to Deadline. Director Justin Lin helms the Sony PlayStation production. The studio made this change alongside several other release date updates during Cinema United’s Fall Summit.

Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island is going into production first, prompting the schedule reshuffling. That film claimed the Veterans Day weekend slot on November 11, 2027. Sony also strategically placed Helldivers in the prime summer season for its new date.

The video game adaptation centers on elite soldiers who battle alien creatures threatening the fictional planet of Super Earth. PlayStation’s Helldivers received critical acclaim when the game launched in 2015. The sequel, Helldivers 2, sold over 12 million units across PS5 and PC within four months of its 2024 release.

Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Lin through Perfect Storm Entertainment are producing the film. On its new June 2028 date, Helldivers will face stiff competition. A Universal event film and the Amblin-produced internet horror feature The Mandela Catalogue open the same weekend.

Meanwhile, Sony announced several other additions to its upcoming slate during the summit. Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island stars Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver alongside Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper. The studio also dated the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill sequel 24 Jump Street for December 10, 2027.

Sony’s recent TIFF acquisition, Michelle Yeoh’s action film The Surgeon, lands on April 2, 2027. The Mason Thames and Ella Bright drama Narcs opens August 20, 2027. Additionally, Takashi Yamazaki’s Bad Robot production Grandgear moved from February 2028 to January 14, 2028.
