Tezzbuzz Desk- Folding smartphones are no longer just a phone with a premium and different design. Large inner screens, multitasking and the ability to work as both a phone and a tablet have made them quite useful. Especially book-style foldable phones provide a screen of up to 8 inches when opened. In such a situation, a question arises in the minds of many users whether a foldable phone can fulfill the need of a small tablet.
The difference in screen size between foldable phones and small tablets has also become smaller than before. For example, iPad Mini has an 8.3-inch screen, while the inner screen of foldable phones like Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is around 8 inches. Whereas iPhone Duo has a 7.6 inch screen. This means that in terms of screen, many foldable phones have come very close to small tablets.
The biggest advantage of a foldable phone is its dual use. In the closed state, it can be used like a normal smartphone and when needed, it can be opened to get a larger screen. Tasks like watching videos, social media, web browsing, gaming and reading can be more convenient on a larger screen. Due to this, those users may not need to keep separate phones and tablets, whose use is mainly limited to these purposes.
One of its benefits is also available in terms of mobile connectivity. The foldable phone is already connected to the mobile network, so no separate connection is required to use the internet. This feature can be especially useful while travelling, because there is no need to repeatedly provide a hotspot to use the internet from the phone to the tablet. However, foldable phones cannot be a substitute for tablets in every situation. A tablet with a larger screen may be more convenient for working on documents for long periods of time, video editing, graphic design, or other high-productivity tasks. Two or three apps can be run simultaneously on a foldable phone, but some users may find the screen size limiting for working for long periods of time.
The foldable device also has some other limitations. The price may be higher due to additional technology like hinge and folding screen. Some models are even thicker and heavier than normal smartphones. Fold creases on the inner screen may also appear under some circumstances. Additionally, not every app is fully optimized for foldable screens, so you can't always take full advantage of the larger screen.
In such a situation, if your use is limited to video, gaming, social media, browsing or reading while traveling, then a foldable phone can fulfill the need of a small tablet to a great extent. But if a tablet is essential for your daily work, editing, design or long-term productivity, it may be more practical to have a separate tablet.
Therefore, before buying a foldable phone, just looking at the screen size is not enough. It is more important to understand what you use the tablet for. Depending on your usage, it will be decided whether the foldable phone can replace the tablet or it would be better to have both the devices.
