Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employees' issues, on Thursday held high-level meetings with delegations of employee and contractual unions of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), directing the management to prioritize the resolution of their legitimate demands.
The meetings were attended by PSPCL CMD Gurkirat Kirpal Singh and senior officials. Cheema heard the grievances raised by the union representatives and instructed PSPCL management to place legitimate demands before the upcoming Board of Directors (BoD) meeting and expedite their resolution.
The key demands included rectification of the pay-scale anomaly affecting Assistant Engineers, bringing outsourced personnel working at NCC, CRC, stores, laboratories and billing units under direct departmental contracts, and providing regular employment opportunities to trained diploma and degree apprentices.
The unions also sought the reinstatement of retrenched meter readers, along with formalization of their service conditions and allowances.
Cheema reiterated the state government's commitment to employee welfare, stating that genuine administrative, structural and financial issues would be addressed systematically and without unnecessary delay. He assured the representatives that most of their demands were already in the pipeline.
The delegations included representatives of the PSEB Engineers' Association, Powercom and Transco Theka Mulazam Union, Outsource Employees Federation, All Diploma Degree Apprenticeship Association and Powercom Meter Reader Union (Azad).
Among those who presented their concerns were engineers JS Dhiman, Ajay Pal Singh Atwal, Sukhwant Singh, Jagdeep Singh Garcha, Jatinder Garg and Devinder Goyal; Balihar Singh, Tek Chand, Sandeep Khatri and Balwinder Singh; Kuljeet Singh, Tarandeep Singh, Amritsar Kumar and Pawandeep Singh; Gurdeep Singh, Sukhmander Singh and Jagjit Singh; and Gurwinder Singh, Jagsir Singh and Molakdeep Singh.
