London, Oct 1:
Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso will continue with Aston Martin for the 2027 season, ending months of speculation over his future in the sport.
Aston Martin confirmed that Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll will remain with the team for 2027. The announcement secures Alonso’s place on the Formula One grid for another season as the team prepares for a major new technical era.
Alonso, 45, joined Aston Martin in 2023 after leaving Alpine and has since played a central role in the team’s development. He has previously won the F1 world championship in 2005 and 2006 with Renault.
His decision to continue comes amid questions over his long-term future and Aston Martin’s competitiveness. The team is preparing for the introduction of new Formula One power-unit regulations, with Aston Martin working with Honda on its engine programme.
The confirmation means Alonso will enter another season with Aston Martin alongside Stroll. The Spaniard had previously indicated that his decision on continuing in F1 would depend on his competitiveness and his assessment of the team’s prospects under the new regulations.
