New Delhi. AYUSH service sector has joined the rapidly expanding service sectors of the country. According to a study report by Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), the economic contribution of the AYUSH sector is estimated to be around US $ 36.92 billion in the financial year 2024-25. The report says that if the current pace continues, this sector can reach 216 to 318 billion dollars by the year 2047.
According to the report, an annual growth of 16.91 percent has been recorded in the AYUSH sector since the year 2022-23. This sector directly forms the basis of livelihood of about 17.6 lakh people.
Revenue of $1.77 billion from medical value travel
According to the study released on the occasion of 11th Ayurveda Day on September 23 in Nagpur, the AYUSH sector generated revenue of about $ 1.77 billion from Medical Value Travel (MVT) in the financial year 2024-25.
Union AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav said that the findings of the study highlight the growing economic potential of the AYUSH sector. According to him, AYUSH is no longer limited to just cultural heritage, but its role is also increasing in health, wellness, employment and global economic activities.
Survey conducted at national level for the first time
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, said that this study provides an important basis for future investments, policy planning and reforms. He said that for the first time the economic contribution of AYUSH services has been assessed through an establishment-based survey at the national level.
According to RIS Director General Professor Sachin Kumar Sharma, 15,914 establishments belonging to all six AYUSH systems were surveyed for the study. He said that the AYUSH sector, which is experiencing an annual growth of about 17 percent and supporting employment to 17.6 lakh people, is now becoming an important knowledge-based service sector of the economy.
Ayurveda has the biggest share
According to the report, Ayurveda remained the largest field among the various systems of AYUSH. In the financial year 2024-25, revenue of about $ 17.73 billion was received from Ayurveda, which is about 48 percent of the total revenue of the AYUSH sector.
The report also states that the share of women in the total workforce in the AYUSH sector is about 43 percent.
