New Delhi. The day of October 2 was in the name of Indian players in Aichi Nagoya Asian Games 2026. On the 13th day, India's eyes were on boxing, archery, wrestling, hockey and many other sports and as the day progressed, Indian players won a flurry of medals. The most special performance was of star (Boxer Lovlina Borgohain) Boxer Lovlina Borgohain who gifted a gold medal to the country on her birthday. Apart from this, the Indian women's recurve team also won a historic gold medal.
Lovlina Borgohain won the gold medal by defeating China's Bao Ziyi 5-0 in the final of the women's 75 kg category. This victory was very special for Lovlina, who was celebrating her 29th birthday on October 2. With this gold, she became the second Indian woman boxer to win gold in the Asian Games. Before her, Mary Kom had achieved this feat in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
Shortly after Lovlina's victory, big news came for India from archery also. The Indian women's recurve team of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod won the gold medal by defeating South Korea 5-3 in the final. This is the Indian women's recurve team's first Asian Games gold medal in this event. In the match, Indian archers maintained pressure amidst strong wind and performed brilliantly against the strong Korean team.
However, the men's recurve team had to face defeat against South Korea in the final. The Indian team of Dheeraj Bommadeva, Neeraj Chauhan and Yashdeep Bhoge lost 1-5 and had to be content with the silver medal. Earlier, the Indian team had made it to the final by defeating Iran 6-0 in the semi-finals.
India's hopes remained high in wrestling also. Sujit Kalkal made it to the finals by defeating the Olympic champion in the 65 kg category. In such a situation, the eyes of Indian fans remained focused on their match also. Apart from boxing and archery, India also maintained its medal hopes in many other sports in the day's matches.
On October 1, i.e. the 12th day, India had won six medals which included two silver and four bronze. After this, the matches of October 2 further strengthened India's medal tally. During the day, India reached the medal tally of 70 which included 12 gold, 24 silver and 34 bronze.
The biggest attraction of the 13th day of the Asian Games was Lovlina winning gold on her birthday and the historic gold of the Indian women's recurve team. The men's recurve team's silver also reflects India's strong archery campaign. Now there is hope of medals from Indian players in the remaining matches of the competition and all eyes are on India's position in the medal tally.
