Paharpur (East Champaran), 02 October 2026: Four young girls drowned while bathing in the lake in the morning in Bankat village of Inarvabhar Panchayat under Paharpur police station area of the district.
This accident took place at Gida Chavar of Ward No. 7. As soon as the news of this incident was received, panic spread in the village and a group of villagers gathered at the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Sonamati Kumari (13) and Phulnati Kumari (10), daughters of Pramod Mahato; Pratibha Kumari (6), daughter of Achchhelal Mahato; and Kriti Kumari (10), daughter of Virendra Mahto – all residents of Bankat village.
It is learned that Kriti's parents work as laborers in Delhi and were there at the time of the incident. After this tragedy, the atmosphere became sombre amidst the anger of the relatives of the deceased girls.

It was learned that on Friday morning five girls had gone to the area behind his house. After some time, seven year old Anthana Kumari returned home alone and informed the family that the remaining four girls had drowned in the lake. Frightened family members and villagers ran towards the lake and started searching for the girls.

As soon as information was received about the incident, newly appointed Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Kumar, BDO Akhilesh Kumar, CO Ramsevak Paswan and Revenue Officer Aarti Kumari reached the spot along with the police force.
With the help of the villagers, Chareya was able to pull the girls out of the lake. He was immediately taken to the Community Health Center, where after examination the doctors declared him dead.
Dead bodies were sent for postmortem
Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Kumar said that after completing the necessary legal proceedings, the four bodies have been sent to Motihari Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
Circle Officer (CO) Ram Sevak Paswan said that appropriate action is being taken regarding this incident. According to the rules, the process of giving compensation to the dependents of the deceased girls from the Natural Disaster Relief Fund will be started.
After the death of four girls, there is a mood of mourning again in Bankat village. The villagers are shocked by this tragedy and the families of the deceased are extremely grief-stricken.
