Speculations about former minister and national president of Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party Swami Prasad Maurya joining Congress have intensified. According to sources, Swami Prasad Maurya can reach Delhi on Saturday, October 3, where he is said to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to sources, after meeting Rahul Gandhi, Swami Prasad Maurya may join Congress. However, no official confirmation has been made yet by Congress or Swami Prasad Maurya regarding his joining Congress. It is being told that apart from Maurya, former Mathura MLA Shyam Sundar Sharma and former Delhi MLA Ashok Kumar are also being discussed about joining Congress.
Swami Prasad Maurya has been a well-known OBC face in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. He has been a minister in Bahujan Samaj Party and BJP governments. Apart from this, he also remained in Samajwadi Party. For the last few years, he was doing politics by forming his own party.
Maurya started his political career with Janata Dal. After this he remained in BSP for a long time. In 2016, he left BSP and joined BJP and became a cabinet minister in the Yogi Adityanath government. Before the 2022 assembly elections, he left BJP and switched to Samajwadi Party. Later, due to differences, he resigned from SP and formed Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party.
According to sources, his party may contest along with Congress on some selected seats in the upcoming assembly elections. However, there has been no official announcement from either side regarding the alliance or merger yet.
