New Delhi: Security forces in Kashmir got a major success on Tuesday. One terrorist was killed in an encounter with Rashtriya Rifles in the high altitude area of Budgam district. According to sources, he was Fauji Musa, the top commander of Pakistani organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.
Musa was counted among the most wanted terrorists of Lashkar. His name had come up in several attacks over the years on both sides of the Pir Panjal mountain range. He escaped in the encounter that took place in the hills of Yusmarg on the 5th of this month, but his close companion Yasir was killed in that action. Officials say that the elimination of Musa is one of the biggest setbacks for Lashkar in Jammu and Kashmir.
How did the encounter happen?
The Army told 'X' that it, along with other security forces, had conducted an operation in Korag and Yusmarg areas of central Kashmir. The soldiers noticed suspicious movement and when they challenged them, the terrorists opened fire. One terrorist was killed during the fierce exchange of fire in retaliation. Solid intelligence had already been received about the presence of terrorists in the area, so the soldiers first cordoned off the area and then started the search.
