CM Rekha Gupta's big resolution is that old waste will be removed from Okhla Landfill, new waste will be cleaned scientifically.

New Delhi:The campaign to eliminate the mountains of garbage that have been standing in the capital Delhi for years has now reached a new phase. While inspecting the Okhla landfill site on Saturday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta not only took stock of the progress in disposal of old waste but also announced major steps to prevent the new waste generated daily in Delhi from turning into a mountain. Under the Seva Sankalp campaign, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of new garbage disposal plants in Okhla, Singhola and Ghazipur and biogas plant in Ghazipur through virtual medium from Okhla. New waste disposal plants with capacity of 1400 tonnes per day will be set up in Okhla, 700 tonnes per day in Singhola and 800 tonnes per day in Ghazipur. Keeping in mind the cleanliness of Yamuna and better management of biodegradable waste, the foundation stone of a biogas plant with a capacity of 300 tonnes per day was also laid in Ghazipur.

217.17 lakh metric tons of garbage cleaned in one and a half year

According to the Chief Minister, in the last one and a half years, 217.17 lakh metric tonnes of waste has been disposed of from Okhla, Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfill sites. Due to this campaign, about 100 acres of land has been freed. The government says that now the aim is not only to remove the old waste, but also to process the new waste coming daily in a scientific manner at the same time so that in future, mountains of garbage do not arise again in Delhi. During a review meeting with officials at the Okhla landfill site, the Chief Minister inquired about the current status of waste disposal, available land and capacity of new processing facilities. He directed the officials to strengthen the system for scientific disposal of old waste at landfill sites as well as processing of fresh waste coming daily.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the mountains of garbage that have arisen in Delhi due to years of neglect are now continuously reducing. He said that the government's resolve is not limited to just removing the old waste but also to prevent it from becoming a mountain again by processing the new waste scientifically. The Chief Minister said that today we have taken the last selfie with the mountain of garbage. With the aim of ensuring that neither mountains of old garbage remain nor new mountains are created in Delhi, they are taking a pledge to eliminate it in 2026 itself.

He said that with the increase in new processing capacity, the pace of scientific disposal of waste will speed up and the land at the landfill site can be used better. Along with waste management, the government is also working towards generating resources and renewable energy from waste.

Emphasis on additional capacity of three thousand tonnes per day

Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood said that now work is being done to solve the problems in Delhi instead of just making allegations and counter-allegations. He said that work is going on to solve other old problems of Delhi like legacy waste. He said that disposal plants with a capacity greater than the waste generated daily from Delhi will be set up so that the problem of waste in the capital can be permanently solved.

Picture changed in two months: Preparation to build the park

Mayor Pravesh Wahi said that work is being done with new energy in Delhi under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He mentioned a place at the Okhla site where a mountain of garbage existed till some time ago. According to him, following the instructions of the Chief Minister, the disposal work was expedited and now there is a plan to develop a park on about three acres of land. The Mayor said that special boxes have also been installed in Delhi to collect the broken idols and puja material separately. He said that plants with a total capacity of 3000 tonnes per day will be set up to dispose of new waste. Work is also being done to provide necessary resources including new MRS machines and auto tippers to strengthen the sanitation system.

Kotla Mubarakpur also got a gift

During the program, the Chief Minister also dedicated the newly constructed Maternity and Child Center in Kotla Mubarakpur to the public through virtual medium. Along with this, a message was given to carry forward many works related to waste management, cleanliness and civic amenities. Deputy Mayor Dr. Monica Pant, Standing Committee Chairman Satya Sharma, Standing Committee Deputy Chairman Satyapal Singh, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Dems Committee Chairman Sandeep Kapoor, South-East Zone Ward Committee Chairman Neetu Chaudhary, Councilors, Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Additional Commissioner Leeladhar Meghwal, South-East Zone Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, Chief Engineer K.K. Corporation officials including Sharma were present.
