India Gate-Jantar Mantar March: In view of the proposed demonstrations on Sunday against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, Delhi Police has tightened security arrangements in the capital. The police has not given permission to the proposed march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar. Despite this, two separate marches have been announced.
According to Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and paramilitary forces have been deployed along with about 5,000 policemen as part of security arrangements. Drones are being monitored in sensitive areas and multilevel barricading has been done on many major roads.
Announcement of march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar
The first march on Sunday is proposed from India Gate to Jantar Mantar at 3 pm, which has been named 'Citizens March'. After this, Indian Youth Congress has also announced to take out a march at 5 pm.
Police has clarified that permission has not been given to march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar. Police have deployed additional forces on major routes to maintain law and order.
Barricading on many roads, traffic affected
Multilevel barricades have been installed on the routes leading to Jantar Mantar. Restrictions have also been imposed on Tolstoy Marg, Janpath Road, Sansad Marg and the roads leading to Kerala Bhavan. Barricading has also been done around Ashoka Road and C-Hexagon.
Police are monitoring the crowd's activities through CCTV cameras and drones. Police vehicles and PCR vans are also deployed at key locations.
Demonstration regarding SIR, demand for resignation of CEC
The protesters are alleging alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and deletion of names of a large number of voters. They are demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
On Friday also, various political parties and student organizations including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), AISA, SFI, NSUI had demonstrated in Delhi. During this period, more than 700 protesters were detained.
