Mobile Lost: In today’s time, mobile is not just a means of making calls and messages. It contains important information related to our personal photos, Gmail, social media, UPI and banking. In such a situation, a little carelessness can cause huge losses if the phone is lost or stolen. If your phone ever gets lost, do these things immediately.
First stop SIM and banking services
As soon as you lose your phone, call the customer care service of your mobile operator and get the SIM blocked. This reduces the risk of misuse of calls, SMS and OTP. After this, contact the bank and get UPI, mobile banking and digital wallet closed for some time.
Find your phone or erase data with Find My Device
If the phone is dropped nearby, use Google’s Find My Device service from another mobile or computer. With this, a loud ring can be made on the phone and its location can also be seen if available. In case of theft, you can also use the option to remotely delete important data of the phone.
Change Gmail and social media passwords
After this, change your Gmail password from another device. Also secure the accounts of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and online shopping apps. This reduces the risk of a stolen phone accessing your account.
Complain to police and block IMEI on CEIR
In case of phone theft or loss, file a complaint with the police and keep a copy of the complaint safely. After this, the IMEI number of the phone can be blocked on the government’s Sanchar Saathi CEIR portal. This helps in preventing misuse of stolen phones.
Take a duplicate SIM and take these precautions in future
A duplicate SIM of the same number can be obtained from the mobile company with a police complaint and necessary identity proof. For future, keep a strong lock, 2FA and backup in the phone. Also turn off notification preview of OTP and other private messages on the lock screen.
