Imphal. Manipur Police has arrested three alleged smugglers while taking action in Imphal East district as part of its anti-narcotics operation. Police have recovered 318 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate, a Mahindra XUV and a TVS Jupiter Scooty from the possession of the accused.
According to official information released by Manipur Police Headquarters on Monday, based on credible intelligence, a joint team of Imphal East District Police and security forces conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Ningthem Pukhri Mapal area on Sunday.
During the operation, John Longjam alias Mani (41), resident of Sagolband Terra Khuraijam Leirak, was arrested. 158 bottles of cough syrup of Choco Plus Company containing Codeine Phosphate 10 mg were recovered from his possession.
According to the police, based on the interrogation of Mani, Longjam Wanglen (41), resident of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai, was arrested from his house. After this, on the basis of information received from Wanglen, Ningthoujam Henching (29), resident of Singjamei Oinam Thingel, was arrested. 160 bottles of cough syrup of the same company containing Codeine Phosphate 10 mg were recovered from his possession.
Police said that the seized material included a total of 318 bottles of cough syrup besides a Mahindra XUV and a TVS Jupiter Scooty. The arrested accused and recovered items have been handed over to Porompat Police Station for further legal action. The state government and police have said that the campaign against drugs will continue in Manipur.
