Aryaveer Sehwag, son of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, has been given a big responsibility. He has been named the captain of the Delhi U-19 team for the upcoming Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced a 16-member squad. This tournament will be held in Visakhapatnam from 8th October. Arnav Bugga has been made the vice-captain of the Delhi team.
Aryaveer's appointment comes immediately after the recent India U-19 tour. He was part of the Indian team in the three-match Youth One-Day International series against Australia in Rajkot last month. In the rain-affected first match, he scored 28 runs off 28 balls on his debut as India defeated Australia by seven runs. He then produced his best performance of the series in the second ODI, scoring 47 runs and forming a vital partnership at the start of the innings. But, he was run out just three runs before the half-century. He also made a good start in the third match and scored 34 runs. He scored a total of 109 runs in three innings in the entire series.
This series was very important for Aryaveer. He played two matches for West Delhi Lions in the 2026 Delhi Premier League, scoring 24 runs. He also came into limelight with his brilliant innings of 297 runs for Delhi against Meghalaya in the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy. After the Australia series, Aryaveer admitted that he failed to convert his good starts into big scores and learned the importance of breaking down big innings into phases. The captaincy of Delhi will give him another opportunity to improve his game and showcase his skills.
