Tezzbuzz Desk- Amidst the increasing cases of online fraud, WhatsApp is working on a new security feature. This feature will alert users about potential scams by identifying suspicious conversation patterns originating from unknown numbers.
Nowadays, cyber fraudsters are targeting people through WhatsApp. Sometimes the fraudsters introduce themselves as bank officers, and sometimes they start conversations by posing as friends, relatives or representatives of some company. After this, the user is pressurized to send money, click on any suspicious link or share personal information.
To protect users from similar online frauds, WhatsApp is working on a new 'Scam Alert' feature. Its purpose is to identify suspicious conversations and alert the user in time, so that he can be careful before becoming a victim of any fraud.
How will the feature work on chat with unknown numbers?
The new security system will especially monitor conversations originating from unknown numbers. The aim is to identify patterns and patterns of interaction that may be similar to previously reported scam cases. However, just receiving a 'Hi' or general message from an unknown number will not directly be considered a scam. The system will alert the user about a potential threat after analyzing conversation patterns and signals associated with suspicious activities.
Analysis of messages will be done inside the phone itself
The special thing about this feature is that the machine learning model will analyze the pattern of the message on the user's smartphone itself. This means that there will be no need to send the chat content to the company's server for investigation. According to Meta, the purpose of this process is to maintain the privacy of users' private conversations. The system will try to identify patterns and patterns in conversations that are often seen in fraud cases.
After receiving the alert, the user will have complete control
If the system detects signs of suspicious activity in an unknown chat, a warning may appear on the user's screen. After this, the user will be able to decide the further action himself. If the number is suspicious, the user can block it or report it. At the same time, if the alert has come on the chat of a person whom the user recognizes, then he can continue the conversation. The system will not report any chat on its own and user's permission will be required for this.
How to turn on Scam Alert in WhatsApp?
If this feature is available in your account, it can be activated through Settings.
- First of all open WhatsApp in your phone.
- Go to Settings of WhatsApp.
- Here tap on the 'Account' option.
- If 'Scam Alert' option is available in your account, open it.
- After this turn on the given toggle.
Not currently available for all users
Currently, this feature has been made available to some selected Android beta testers. If the 'Scam Alert' option is not visible in your WhatsApp account, do not try to activate it forcibly with the help of any external or unknown app. The company is gradually extending this facility to more users. At the same time, iPhone users will have to wait for this feature.
