'I Settled 8 Wars': Trump's Big Nobel Peace Prize Claim Ahead of Friday Announcement

Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again made a case for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that he has helped settle eight wars since returning to the White House. His latest remarks came just days before the Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the 2026 Peace Prize winner.

Trump Claims Credit for Eight Conflicts

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said his record of involvement in international conflicts should strengthen his case for the prestigious award. He claimed that no previous US president had achieved what he described as his record of resolving conflicts.

Trump has repeatedly argued that his diplomatic interventions deserve recognition. He has also pointed to efforts involving several international disputes and hostage releases while making his case for the prize.

However, Trump's assessment of his role has faced challenges. Parties involved in some of the conflicts he says he helped resolve have disputed the extent of the US president’s contribution. Fighting has also resurfaced in some areas, including parts of Africa and along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Nobel Announcement Set for Friday

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Trump has acknowledged uncertainty about whether he will receive the award, saying the committee has a reputation for not necessarily choosing candidates like him.

The Nobel Committee has stressed that its decision is based on efforts that advance peace, international cooperation and the principles outlined in Alfred Nobel’s will. Committee secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken has also said lobbying and attempts to influence the committee are not unusual.

Trump's Nobel Campaign

Trump’s pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize is not new. During his first presidency, he frequently highlighted his diplomatic initiatives as grounds for recognition. His campaign for the award has continued during his second term.

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, handed her medal to Trump earlier this year. Trump has cited the gesture while discussing his Nobel credentials.

The 2026 winner will be revealed in Oslo on Friday, with Trump among the prominent figures whose names have drawn attention ahead of the announcement.
