Tezzbuzz Desk- Samajwadi Party has made industrialist Dhanraj Nathwani its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. It is considered almost certain that he will be elected unopposed. But just a few days after his nomination, his social media post praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi has intensified political discussions. BJP has called it a heartfelt compliment, while BSP has alleged nexus between SP and BJP. At the same time, SP has maintained silence on this entire matter till now.
Dhanraj Nathwani congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completion of 25 years of public life on 7 October. In his post, he mentioned the journey of Narendra Modi from taking oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 to becoming the Prime Minister. He praised PM Modi's leadership, dedication, determination to nation building and service and wished him strength and success in further service to the nation.
Dhanraj Nathwani has had no direct political association with the Samajwadi Party before. He has neither been in SP nor been actively seen in party programs. He is associated with the corporate world and is a senior executive associated with Reliance Industries.
When Akhilesh Yadav had decided to make him the Rajya Sabha candidate, he had said that many political parties have presence in the corporate world. SP also wants to send a person to the Upper House to connect with the business world.
Father Parimal Nathwani NDA supported MP
Dhanraj Nathwani's father Parimal Nathwani is also a Rajya Sabha MP. In June 2026, he reached Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand as an independent candidate supported by NDA. With this he became a member of the Upper House for the fourth consecutive time.
Parimal Nathwani is also associated with Reliance Group. In such a situation, the political path of two members of the same family to reach Rajya Sabha appears different. The father is an NDA-backed independent MP, while the son Dhanraj Nathwani has been made its candidate by the Samajwadi Party and it is almost certain that he will reach the Rajya Sabha.
Dhanraj Nathwani is also the President of Gujarat Cricket Association. He assumed the responsibility of this post in November 2022. Before this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been the President of Gujarat Cricket Association from 2009 to 2014.
Dhanraj Nathwani has a strong connection with Gujarat. Along with the corporate sector, he has also been active in sports administration. This is the reason why since the announcement of his name by SP, the question kept being raised in political circles as to why Akhilesh Yadav chose a person considered close to BJP for Rajya Sabha.
Discussion increased after praising Modi
Now, after Dhanraj Nathwani's post in praise of PM Modi surfaced on October 7, this discussion has intensified. Nathwani highlighted the Prime Minister's journey from the Chief Minister of Gujarat to the Prime Minister of the country and praised his dedication towards nation building.
Politically, this post is being considered important because Dhanraj Nathwani had already filed nomination for Rajya Sabha as a Samajwadi Party candidate a few days ago.
Regarding Dhanraj Nathwani's post, BJP said that he has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the heart, not from the mind. BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said that Nathwani is new in politics, so he thought from his heart and not from his mind.
He said that even Akhilesh Yadav praises Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his heart, but there are political compulsions in his mind. Referring to the 25 years of Prime Minister Modi's tenure, Rakesh Tripathi said that during this period there has been a revolutionary change in the lives of the poor and all the heads of state of the world are also praising Modi.
Mayawati has already raised questions
After Dhanraj Nathwani was made the Rajya Sabha candidate, BSP chief Mayawati had also raised questions on Akhilesh Yadav. He had targeted Nathwani's corporate connections by linking them to SP's PDA politics.
Now the post praising PM Modi has once again brought this issue to the center of political debate. BSP has got another opportunity to raise questions on SP. At the same time, there has been no official response from the Samajwadi Party on this entire matter yet. Party spokespersons and leaders are also avoiding commenting on this issue.
