Chief Election Commissioner Dyanesh Kumar And 42 retired judges and retired senior officers of the country have come together and issued an open letter in the wake of the allegations being made by political parties against the Election Commission. The letter has made a serious allegation that a campaign is being carried out without evidence to tarnish the image of constitutional institutions.

'SIR Process Completely Legal'
Special revision of voter list viz SIR Political accusations and recriminations are currently going on across the country due to the process. It is against this backdrop that the position regarding SIR has been clarified in this letter.

The letter claims that the SIR process is valid and legal under the 1950 Act. The purpose of the process, it said, was to remove dead, bogus or migrant names from the voter list and include names of eligible citizens.
According to former judges and officials, public confusion is being created by giving the administrative process the appearance of a political conspiracy.
Displeasure over allegations against constitutional institutions
The letter also expressed displeasure over the use of derogatory language from political platforms against the Election Commission and the courts. The parties making serious allegations regarding the election process have been requested to present them in court along with affidavits and evidence.
'Khapar on EVMs after losing elections'
The letter also targeted the political stand regarding EVMs. A party raises questions on EVMs after losing an election; However, it has been pointed out in the letter that if victory is obtained through the same EVM, it is accepted.
It also mentions the need for political parties to act responsibly while making allegations against the Election Commission or the judiciary.
Important appeal to citizens and media too
The letter warned that if public confidence in constitutional institutions is lost, a situation of anarchy may arise in the country and anti-national forces may benefit from it.
Political parties should fight elections, but should not tarnish the reputation of constitutional institutions. If there are complaints, they should be presented before the court or Election Commission along with the evidence.
The letter also said that the media should not simply carry forward political claims or rumors in the form of news without any verification. It has been urged that the citizens should verify the facts and believe in the power of voting without blindly believing any political claim.
