New Delhi: Kieron Pollard has finally stepped into the family where Dwayne Bravo once tried to take him. The story dates back to 2010, when Bravo advised Chennai Super Kings to include Pollard in the team. However, at that time Mumbai Indians won and Pollard became a part of their team. After this, he wrote such a wonderful story with Mumbai, which became included in the memorable stories of IPL history. Pollard was one of the most reliable players of Mumbai Indians for a long time. First he strengthened the team as an explosive all-rounder and later became an important member of the support staff.
Pollard's relationship with Mumbai Indians was not limited to just IPL. He also played for Mumbai Indians Cape Town, Mumbai Indians Emirates and Mumbai Indians New York. But now after about 16 years, there has been a turn in his career which perhaps no one would have imagined. On Wednesday, October 7, in the player auction of the fifth season of South Africa Twenty20, 39-year-old Pollard was signed by Joburg Super Kings without any opposition for 1.5 million rand i.e. about Rs 87 lakh. In this way, the player whom Dwayne Bravo once wanted to bring to Chennai Super Kings, Pollard has finally become a part of the Super Kings family.
Pollard played IPL only for Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2022 and now he is in the role of batting coach of the team. Pollard, who has been active in Twenty20 cricket since 2006, has nearly 20 years of vast experience in this format. He is among the highest run-scorers in Twenty20 cricket and has scored around 14,999 runs so far. There has been a tough competition between him and Jos Buttler in the race to score the most Twenty20 runs. Sometimes Butler goes ahead and sometimes Pollard leaves him behind. Now it will be interesting to see whether Pollard's new chapter in the Super Kings family takes his illustrious Twenty20 career to new heights.
