Bollywood actor Mrunal Thakur has voiced strong displeasure over the severe online trolling directed at her industry colleagues Katrina Kaif and Kriti Sanon in recent weeks, urging the public to respect personal choices and acknowledge their immense contributions to cinema and enterprise.
Speaking during promotional rounds for her new film Pooja Meri Jaan, Mrunal addressed the constant public scrutiny female actors face regarding their appearances, choices, and personal lives.
”Do We Forget Their Contributions?”
Defending both actors against unwarranted criticism, Mrunal emphasized their entrepreneurial ventures and professional longevity:
”It’s their life, it’s their choice, and everyone has a right to enjoy the phase of their life. And who are we? People who are judging all these iconic women, do we forget how amazing work [they have done] and the contribution towards the industry and business both of these women [have made]?” Mrunal told PTI. “Be it Kriti or Katrina, they are running a business not just in India but everywhere in the UK and all. I think people should not comment on anyone else. People are crazy, what else to say.”
While noting that women have historically faced harsher societal judgments, Mrunal added that modern public scrutiny increasingly affects male celebrities as well.
Background on Recent Trolling Incidents
Both Katrina Kaif and Kriti Sanon found themselves targeted by social media users over distinct controversies.
Katrina Kaif: Faced severe, unwarranted body-shaming and commentary regarding her physical appearance following the birth of her son, Vihaan, when she appeared at an Ambani family Ganpati celebration. Katrina later addressed the negativity, stating she refused to let social media narratives paralyze her.
Kriti Sanon: Faced heavy criticism over her clothing choices in a brand commercial for Raksha Bandhan, which prompted the brand to withdraw the ad and led Kriti to issue a public clarification.
