Nature wreaks havoc again in Nepal: More than 35 houses and bridges washed away in sudden flood, alert in many areas

Kathmandu. The sudden flood on Sunday caused huge devastation in Gorkha district of Nepal. Due to rapid rise in the water level of Budhi Gandaki river, more than 35 houses and a bridge were washed away. After the incident, the local administration has appealed to the people living on the river banks to be alert and go to safe places. According to initial information, no casualties have been reported so far, while the damage is being assessed.

Due to the flood, a bridge connecting the area was also damaged and washed away.

There is a possibility of landslide in the upper area, the reason for the flood is not clear

Gorkha Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra said that according to initial information, there was a landslide in the upper area of Siuribas. However, the actual reason for the sudden rise in water level in the river is not yet clear.

Local people fear that the flow of Syar, a tributary of Budhi Gandaki between Lokpa and Chumling in Chumanubri-6 area, may have been disrupted. Due to this the water pressure increased and a sudden flood situation arose. However, this apprehension has not been officially confirmed.

People frightened by the memory of Bhotekoshi flood

According to news portal 'Online Khabar', Lakshmi Gurung, vice-chairperson of Chumanubri Rural Municipality, said that the flood in Budhi Gandaki on Sunday morning reminded her of the massive flood in Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa district.
