A secret chamber of drugs was kept in the fuel tank of trucks, NCB caught a consignment worth Rs 43 crore

Guwahati. In a major action against drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has recovered 53.937 kg of methamphetamine pills from two trucks in Guwahati, Assam. Their value in the international illegal market has been estimated at around Rs 43 crore. Special secret chambers were made inside the fuel tanks of both the trucks being used for smuggling, in which the narcotics were being carried secretly. Two people from Manipur have been arrested in this case.

Action taken on the basis of intelligence information

Based on the intelligence received on October 6, Guwahati zonal unit of NCB stopped both the trucks and searched them. During the investigation, officials found secret compartments inside the fuel tanks of the trucks, which were used to hide the drugs. A total of 53.937 kg of methamphetamine was recovered during the search.

Methamphetamine is a powerful psychoactive drug. The tablets recovered in this case have also been described as WY tablets. According to the investigating agency, the smugglers had adopted the method of hiding the consignment to protect it from normal vehicle checking.

Smuggling links linked to Myanmar

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the seized consignment of narcotics was brought from Myanmar. Both the arrested accused are said to be residents of Bishnupur district of Manipur. However, at whose request the consignment was brought and where it was to be delivered in India, complete information has not been revealed yet.

NCB is now busy identifying international suppliers associated with this network, people receiving consignments within the country, people providing financial assistance and people handling transportation arrangements. The agency is also finding out who else was involved in this smuggling.

Attempt to access smuggling network

The focus of the investigating agency is not limited to just the recovered narcotics, but also to unearth the entire network behind it. For this, aspects related to supply of consignment, money transaction and transportation are being investigated.

This action of NCB has provided important clues to the ongoing investigation against drug trafficking through the North-Eastern region. At present, the process of interrogating the arrested accused and identifying the entire network is going on.
