The Union Minister called peaceful protests a part of democracy, but said that those spreading anarchy should be identified; Congress accused of harassing the people of Delhi
Patna. Amidst the ongoing protests in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has given his reaction on democracy, opposition and the movement of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). He said that India is the world's largest democracy and there has always been a place for peaceful protests here. However, he also said that it is necessary to identify the elements trying to spread anarchy under the guise of demonstration.
Movement is part of democracy, but anarchy is not accepted
Chirag Paswan said that movements in the country have given direction to political and social changes from time to time. Such movements also provide opportunities to new young leaders to come forward. Referring to his father Ram Vilas Paswan, he said that he also came into politics after coming out of the student movement.
However, regarding the CJP's demonstration, the Union Minister alleged that some organizations are trying to lead the youth towards anarchy. According to him, there is a right to protest in a democracy, but it should not be used to create chaos.
Congress accused of harassing Delhiites
Chirag Paswan targeted Congress and said that the people of Delhi are facing problems due to continuous protests. He alleged that the movement of common people has been affected due to the political activities going on in the capital for several days.
He advised the opposition that if it has any complaint regarding the functioning of the Election Commission, then it should express its views through proper channels. According to him, it would be more appropriate to find solutions to the questions by communicating with the concerned constitutional institutions.
What did you say about the police action?
When asked questions about police action against the protesters, Chirag Paswan said that he is not in favor of violence. However, he also said that the police would have taken the decision considering the circumstances.
His reaction came at a time when reports of several leaders and workers being detained after CJP's proposed protest in Delhi was denied permission. Questions have been raised on the action taken by the protesters, while the administration has stressed the need to maintain law and order.
Resignation is not the solution to every problem
On the question related to law and order in Bihar and the demand for resignation, the Union Minister said that resignation is not the solution to every problem. He said that efforts should be made to improve the system while staying within it.
Chirag Paswan finally expressed confidence that democracy can never end in India. His statement has again brought into focus the ongoing political debate between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the ongoing protests in Delhi.
Background: The CJP is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and electoral reforms. On this issue, differences have emerged between different political parties regarding the manner of protest, police action and problems faced by the common people.
