Taylor Swift’s husband, Travis Kelce, is under fire after seemingly liking Shane Gillis’ controversial monologue on Saturday Night Live.
The 38-year-old comedian is facing scrutiny over his opening monologue on the popular sketch comedy show, during which he made provocative comments about women’s workout clothes, particularly their revealing gym shorts.
As the controversy gained traction online, with celebrities and netizens divided over Gillis’ remarks, Kelce, 37, found himself at the centre of the discussion after appearing to like SNL’s Instagram post sharing the monologue clip. His apparent interaction also upset many Swifties.
“As a swiftie, that was genuinely so disappointing of Travis,” one user wrote.
Another added, “It’s not just a monologue. It’s part of the death by a thousand cuts that women suffer at the hands of this patriarchal society that finds ways every single day to tell them they don’t matter. It’s the laughter from the audience at that monologue. It’s knowing a bunch of powerful people are endorsing the monologue with their silence. And it’s the Instagram likes from people who pretended they were on the women’s side.”
“It’s the same Travis who didn’t say anything when his entire football stadium was booing his girlfriend,” a third user commented.
Another wrote, “I mean it’s the same guy who openly stated he was excited to meet Trump,” while one user described Swift’s taste in men as “genuinely horrendous.”
While fans have expressed anger over Kelce’s apparent approval of what they consider misogynistic remarks in Gillis’ monologue, the NFL star has yet to respond to the backlash. His apparent like has since reportedly disappeared.
