Toyota has launched the Glanza facelift in India with revised styling, more features and a new three-cylinder petrol engine. It is priced from Rs 6.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Here is a closer look at the updated hatchback through these images.

The Glanza facelift gets an updated design that looks more modern. The front end features a new grille section, and redesigned bumpers. Another interesting detail is the Toyota logo, which has moved from the grille to the front edge of the bonnet. The front fog lamps are now sleek rectangular units. The car gets new side skirts as well. Together, these make the front look sportier than before.

The hatchback rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. Same as the model it replaces. The side view remains unchanged. We will also notice a shark fin antenna. The ORVMs come with integrated turn indicators. The rear remains largely unchanged.

The colour palette has also been updated. The new Glanza is available in seven exterior colours: Cafe White, Bluish Black, Digital Teal Green, Sportin Red, Gaming Grey, Insta Blue, and Enticing Silver. Of these, Red is the most striking colour option.

Inside, the Glanza facelift retains a dashboard design similar to that of the previous model. However, a closer look reveals minor changes. The central touchscreen continues to be a 9-inch unit. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easier smartphone connectivity. Higher variants come with a premium Clarion audio system.

The new Glanza also gets ventilated front seats, with their controls positioned on the centre console. This feature is also available in rivals like the Tata Altroz, while the Hyundai i20, does not offer it.

Another important addition is a wireless phone charger with active cooling technology. This will prevent smartphones from overheating while charging.

The instrument cluster continues with an analogue-digital layout, just like the previous model. Other features include automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display and USB charging points.

The Glanza has traditionally offered good cabin space and practicality, and these qualities continue with the facelift, as well. The new Glanza also excels with its ride quality.

One of the most important additions on the facelift is a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package. This makes it one of the most feature-rich hatchbacks in the segment. Of course, the Baleno has these features as well.

The ADAS suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Advanced Emergency Braking and Automatic High Beam Assist, and more. The hatchback also gets easy-to-reach physical buttons to turn ADAS features on or off. More importantly, the inclusion of ADAS will help the new Glanza perform well in Bharat NCAP 2.0 crash tests.

The facelifted Glanza gets a major change under the bonnet. The previous 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated K12 petrol engine has been replaced by a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is lighter and more fuel efficient. It is essentially Maruti Suzuki’s Z12E engine that features dual injectors per cylinder. The low-end torque is claimed to have improved on the new model and the fuel efficiency is claimed to go up.

However, moving from a four-cylinder to a three-cylinder engine could affect refinement. The older K12 engine was known for its smooth and refined character. The Z12E already powers models such as the new Swift and Dzire, and honestly, is not as smooth and refined as the K12. The engine is available with two transmission options- a five-speed manual and a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

There is also a CNG version on offer. The facelift offers it with the choice of an AMT transmission, in addition to the manual.
