Materials required for cleaning copper Kalash

To clean an old copper urn you will need a few simple things:

  • 1–2 cups white vinegar

  • 2–3 teaspoon salt

  • juice of one lemon

  • lemon peel

  • dish soap

  • soft sponge or scrubber

  • clean water

How to make cleaning solution

First of all, mix equal amounts of water and white vinegar in a vessel. Then add 2-3 spoons of salt and juice of one lemon and mix well. In this way your cleaning solution will be ready.

If the pot is small, it can be dipped in this solution. For larger kalash, the solution will have to be applied on its outer surface.

Remove blackness with lemon peel

Lightly rub the lemon peel on the outer surface of the vase. This will help in removing accumulated dirt and blackness. After this wash the Kalash with clean water.

If there is a green layer on the pot, do not ignore it. This may be a sign of copper compound forming on the copper. To remove it, use a suitable cleaner and wash the vessel thoroughly.

Note: It is not necessary to keep the copper vessel soaked in vinegar, lemon and salt solution for a long time. Prolonged exposure to acidic solutions may damage the metal surface. Test on a small area first and wash thoroughly after cleaning.

How to do final cleaning

After cleaning with the solution, clean the vase with dish soap and a soft sponge. Then wash it thoroughly so that there is no residue of vinegar, lemon and salt left.

Do not use harsh scrubbers while cleaning the kalash, especially if it has carvings or decorative layers on it.
