Demand to ban demonstrations in CBD ground till Diwali, traders raised voice

Before Diwali, Delhi traders, fearing crowd and jam in the markets, have demanded a ban on demonstrations in the CBD ground till the festival. Traders expressed their concerns before the police officers in the Traffic Panchayat.

New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police has become alert regarding the traffic arrangements amidst the excitement of Diwali, increasing crowd in the markets and the events of Ramlilas. In view of the possibility of increased vehicular pressure on the roads during festivals and the possibility of the movement of customers being affected in the markets, preparations for traffic management have been intensified. In the same sequence, dialogue was held with local residents, RWA and MWA representatives in the traffic panchayat organized. The issue of the proposed demonstration at the CBD ground also came up prominently in the meeting.

Traders presented their problems before Delhi Traffic Police’s Additional Police Commissioner Zone-1 Traffic Vijayanta Goyal Arya and Eastern Range Police Deputy Commissioner Shweta Chauhan. Traders demanded that no demonstration of any kind should be allowed in the CBD ground till Diwali so that the activities of the markets are not disrupted during this important festival time.

Traders say that the demonstration in the CBD ground may increase the traffic pressure on the surrounding roads. Due to this, there is a possibility of creating a jam situation, customers may face difficulty in reaching the markets and business may be affected. Diwali is considered to be the most important business opportunity of the year for traders. In such a situation, traffic disruption can have a direct impact on the sales of shopkeepers.

Concern of traders, challenge before administration

In view of the Ramlilas organized at various places in East Delhi and the upcoming festivals, the traffic police is faced with the challenge of maintaining smooth traffic on the roads. The police is trying to maintain a balance between the crowd at religious events and markets and the movement of common citizens. The demand raised in the traffic panchayat has underlined the need for better coordination between public events, traffic management and business interests during festivals. Now all eyes are on what decision the administration takes on the demand of traders.
