Abu Azmi's demand, Tukaram Mundhe should become the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh should step down!

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi reacted to the ongoing controversy regarding Tipu Sultan, action of officer Tukaram Mundhe, Election Commission and changes in the voter list. He described Tipu Sultan as a fighting man who fought against the British and accused him of spreading falsehoods about him. Apart from this, he also criticized the government over the changes in the voter list while raising questions on the functioning of the Election Commission.

On slogans being raised in Malegaon in support of Tipu Sultan and calling it against the country, Abu Azmi said that before reaching any conclusion one should read the history of India's freedom struggle. He described Tipu Sultan as a brave man who fought against the British and said that his contribution was being misrepresented.

Azmi said that Tipu Sultan had fought against the British. Questioning the allegations of demolition of temples by Tipu Sultan, he raised the issue of demolition of mosques during the tenure of the present government.

On Congress saying that slogans raised in support of Tipu Sultan were against the country, Azmi said that if the picture of Tipu Sultan and the stories of his bravery are recorded in the book of the Constitution, then the arguments of those speaking against the freedom fighter should also be questioned.

Abu Azmi praised the action being taken by Tukaram Mundhe. He said that Munde is working to save people's lives and eliminate food adulteration and corruption. There is a need for such officers who take action as per the rules without coming under pressure from any minister or other person.

Citing the example of former Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan, he said that strict implementation of Election Commission rules had started during his tenure. Azmi raised questions on the current functioning of the Election Commission and demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He said that if Tukaram Mundhe is given the responsibility of Election Commission, then many complaints of the people can be resolved.

On the changes in the voter list under the SIR and SSI process, Azmi questioned that when SIR was going on for so long, then why is there a need for a new process now. He alleged that new procedures were being introduced after allegations of election irregularities surfaced.

Azmi said that the names of all people born in the country should be in the voter list. He claimed that the government is under pressure amid youth protests and an attempt is being made to divert attention from the allegations against the Election Commission.

On Rajnath Singh's allegations against Rahul Gandhi and his statement regarding efforts for change of power like in Bangladesh, Azmi said that no such efforts are being made. He said that the leaders of the present government are nervous and their time is running out.
