Asus calls the ExpertBook P5 a “worry-free” business laptop. We put that claim to the test by standing on the machine and holding it by its fully opened display. It emerged from both tests without visible damage, closed normally and continued working as expected.

That kind of durability is the P5’s strongest selling point, but it is not the only reason to consider it for work. The laptop combines a sturdy aluminium body with an excellent keyboard, a generous selection of ports and business-focused security features. Battery life and screen brightness leave room for improvement, but the P5 makes a convincing case for professionals who value reliability and practicality over flashy extras.

Build and durability

The all-aluminium body has a matte finish that resists fingerprints. The 14-inch model weighs 1.36kg and the 16-inch 1.75kg. The hinge folds flat to 180 degrees and the lid lifts with one hand, demonstrating its super-strength.

Durability is the P5’s strongest suit. We stood on the laptop and it came through with no visible damage. We also held it by the display alone with the hinge fully open at 180 degrees, and nothing gave. After both tests, the laptop closed and worked as normal.

That fits Asus’s claims. It cites a 50kg lid-and-base pressure test, 1.2mm stainless steel hinges and 50,000 open-close cycles. The keyboard is spill-resistant, not waterproof.

Keyboard and ports

Typing is the P5’s best feature. Key travel is 1.5mm, key pitch is 19.05mm and the keys are slightly dished, so typos are rare. The backlight has three levels, and there are dedicated mic-mute and Copilot keys. Users who engage in a lot of typing, such as in the case of writing this review, is effortless.

The port list means no dongles: two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, two USB-A, HDMI 2.1, full-size Ethernet, a headphone jack and a Kensington lock slot. Many slim laptops have dropped Ethernet and HDMI. The P5 keeps both.

Display and audio

The 14-inch 16:10 panel is 2.5K IPS with an anti-glare coat, 400 nits and full sRGB coverage. Colours are punchy with no tint, and reflections are well controlled. But 400 nits is not enough beside a bright window at noon, there is no touch, and it is not an OLED.

The Dirac-tuned speakers get loud and stay clear, enough for a meeting without headphones. The 5MP IR webcam outputs 1080p and has a physical shield. Windows Hello works but slows in low light. Voice enrolment lets the mics pick out your voice in a noisy office, though Asus says its AI audio features need 16GB of memory.

Performance

The unit had a Core Ultra 7 356H, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. It reached the desktop in just under 40 seconds and handled a dozen browser tabs, 4K video and photo editing without throttling. It scored 2,412 single-core and 12,361 multi-core in Geekbench 7, and 438 in Cinebench single-thread. There is no discrete GPU, so video editing and gaming are out. Asus’s own AI hub, MyExpert, is still labelled “coming soon” so Copilot is what you get today.

Battery could be better?

Asus claims 12 hours 21 minutes in MobileMark 30 and over 18 hours of video playback, both on a 63Wh pack. Our review unit had a 50Wh battery and fell to 30% in about five hours of browsing and document work with the backlight on. But if we take laptop standards into account, this is not a bad at all. The 65W charger tops the laptop up in about an hour, which is another useful feature that will take away some battery woes.

There’s more

This is where the P5 is strongest on paper for IT teams. Asus promises five years of BIOS and driver security updates, with TPM 2.0, self-healing BIOS, chassis-intrusion detection, a fingerprint reader and remote lock-and-wipe tools. In India, the laptop sells through Flipkart, with service packs of up to three years.

Verdict

Asus ExpertBook P5 is a competent fleet laptop with a standout keyboard, a full port set, a body that survives abuse and a security package IT departments will like. Its weaknesses aren’t really note worthy, but the battery life could be better and the screen struggles in bright light with no touch support.

Asus ExpertBook P5 starts at Rs 2,14,990 in India and it is available through Flipkart. Clearly, the pricing is not at the lower end, but the laptop’s target audience and the features it offers are good enough reason to demand a premium.
