Ranchi. BJP Mahila Morcha protested in Ranchi over the issue of sexual harassment complaints and action taken against a professor of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Members of Mahila Morcha took out a protest march from the district school and demanded action in the matter.
During the protest, Mahila Morcha members said that serious questions have been raised regarding the complaints of sexual harassment against Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoizam in JNU. The protesters claimed that the university had taken action against them after an investigation. Akoijam is also a Congress MP from Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency of Manipur.
According to members of Mahila Morcha, 11 students had filed a complaint against the professor in the internal complaints committee of the university. Taking aim at Congress on this issue, BJP said that the party should take a clear stand on serious issues like women's safety and sexual harassment.
The protesters also raised questions about the reaction of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. He said that top Congress leaders should clarify their position on matters related to women's safety and respect.
In view of the demonstration, the police administration made strict security arrangements. Barricades were erected around the Congress office and police forces were deployed to maintain law and order during the protests.
