In fact, India's Test captain is using the domestic competition to prepare for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. Gill was included in Punjab's squad at the last minute to get red-ball match practice. Gill came to bat at number four after Vihaan Malhotra was out on the first ball of the 26th over of Punjab's first innings against Chhattisgarh.
However, Gill's innings lasted only for five balls. On the third ball of the 27th over, Chhattisgarh bowler Ajay Mandal bowled him, due to which Punjab's score became 68/3. Gill could score only one run, which came on his second ball. The fans were disappointed with his early dismissal. But, he is going through tremendous form at the moment. He has scored 200 runs in four innings of three Test matches this year at an average of 50.00, which includes one century and one half-century.
Let us tell you that before joining the Test preparations, Gill will play the first three ODIs of India's five-match series against New Zealand to be held from November 4 to 15. After Gill's departure to prepare for the Test, his deputy Shreyas Iyer will take over as captain in the last two ODIs.
