Renault Duster Strong Hybrid Launched at Rs 16.99 Lakh, Claims 29 km/l Mileage

Renault has launched the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 in India at an introductory price of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new hybrid SUV combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, delivering a claimed fuel efficiency of 29 km/l and a driving range of up to 1,400 km. The launch adds a new powertrain option to Renault’s mid-size SUV lineup as competition intensifies in India’s hybrid car market.

Renault Duster Hybrid: Price and Variants

The Renault Duster Strong Hybrid is available in three variants: Evolution, Techno and Emotion. The introductory prices start at Rs 16.99 lakh and go up to Rs 19.49 lakh.

The Evolution variant is priced at Rs 16.99 lakh, while the Techno costs Rs 18.99 lakh. The top-spec Emotion variant is available at Rs 19.49 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom and subject to the applicable introductory offer conditions.

The new model joins the existing turbo-petrol versions of the 2026 Duster, giving buyers an alternative focused on fuel economy without requiring an external charging connection.

1.8-Litre Petrol Engine Paired with Two Electric Motors

The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 uses a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery.

The combined power output is rated at approximately 160 PS, with the hybrid system automatically switching between electric power, petrol power and a combination of both depending on driving conditions. The SUV uses a dedicated hybrid transmission to manage power delivery.

Renault claims the vehicle can operate in electric mode for up to 80% of the time during city driving. The battery recharges through regenerative braking and the petrol engine, eliminating the need to plug the vehicle into an external charger.

Claims 29 km/l Fuel Efficiency and 1,400 km Range

One of the biggest highlights of the new Duster is its claimed ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km/l. Renault also claims a combined driving range of up to 1,400 km on a full tank.

These figures could make the hybrid attractive to buyers who frequently drive in cities or undertake long-distance journeys. However, actual mileage and driving range will depend on traffic, road conditions, driving style and other factors.

Features and Equipment

The entry-level Evolution variant includes a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a seven-inch digital driver display, dual-zone automatic climate control and 18-inch wheels.

The Techno variant adds features such as a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and connected-car technology. The top-end Emotion offers ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate and a larger 10.25-inch digital driver display.

Renault has also announced an eight-year or 160,000 km warranty for the hybrid battery.

Competition in India’s Hybrid SUV Market

The Renault Duster Strong Hybrid will compete with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Maruti Suzuki Victoris, all of which offer strong-hybrid powertrains.

With its competitive starting price, high claimed fuel efficiency and familiar SUV format, Renault is targeting customers seeking a balance between performance, practicality and running costs.

The hybrid launch is also part of Renault’s broader effort to strengthen its presence in India through an expanded product portfolio and additional powertrain choices.

Summary

Renault has launched the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 in India at Rs 16.99 lakh, with prices reaching Rs 19.49 lakh for the top variant. Its 1.8-litre petrol engine and two electric motors deliver approximately 160 PS. Renault claims 29 km/l mileage, up to 1,400 km of range and electric driving for up to 80% of city journeys.
