New Delhi. Delhi Police has handed over the investigation of another case registered against Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch. After this action taken on Tuesday (October 20), the Crime Branch will now investigate two cases related to the two leaders.
Earlier on Monday, another case related to the alleged entry of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka into Jantar Mantar area was also handed over to the Crime Branch. According to Delhi Police, on October 13, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other CJP members had reached Jantar Mantar through a private complex. According to the police, Jantar Mantar has been kept out of the list of scheduled protest sites.
14 people detained on reaching Jantar Mantar
Policemen deployed at Jantar Mantar reportedly tried to stop everyone. After this, a total of 14 people including Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde were detained. Police registered two cases in this matter.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have approached Delhi High Court demanding their release. Both are preparing to challenge the order of the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court extending their judicial custody in the case of alleged unauthorized entry into Jantar Mantar.
A day earlier, SEM Court had extended the judicial custody of both of them till October 21. The court had said in its order that the behavior of both does not show respect for the law and indicates that they are accustomed to protesting in restricted areas.
Police opposed bail
Delhi Police cited their alleged repeated law breaking as the reason for continuing the detention of the two leaders. Police say that after his release, there is a possibility of him violating the law again and inspiring others to do the same.
After investigation, the SEM court also declared the bail presented by Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka invalid. According to the court, discrepancies were found in the identity documents. Apart from this, the people who had given bail for both of them could not even provide basic information about the persons for whom they had taken bail.
Now the crime branch will investigate both the cases.
