After seeing these forms, businessmen will be able to give their opinion. The last date for giving suggestions has been kept as 30th November. What happened in the 57th GST Council meeting?

The 57th meeting of the GST Council was held on 8 October 2026. In this, simplifying the method of filing GST returns was discussed. It was decided in the meeting that the information given in different return forms would be matched in a better way. Currently, businessmen fill information about sales and tax payment in separate forms. Sometimes there is a difference in these figures.

Due to this the tax department has to answer. To overcome this problem, preparations are being made to improve forms like GSTR-1, GSTR-1A and GSTR-3B. These changes can help businessmen correct their mistakes. Besides, tax related information will also be clearer than before.

What are GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?

While filing GST, businessmen have to use different forms. Businessmen give information about their sales in GSTR-1. With the help of GSTR-1A, necessary corrections can be made in the information already given. At the same time, in GSTR-3B, businessmen tell how much GST they have to pay and how much tax has been deposited.

The government wants that the data filled in these forms should match with each other. This will reduce the chances of entering wrong information and filing returns will also be easier.

Businessmen may get less tax notices

The biggest problem while filing GST returns is the mismatch of data in different forms. Many times businessmen give correct sales information, but some data is entered incorrectly in the other form. In such a situation, a notice may come from the tax department. According to CBIC officer Gaurav Singh, about 80 percent of notices related to GST are issued due to differences in return data.

The government is now trying to reduce this problem. After the introduction of new forms, it may become easier for businessmen to match the information.

Problems related to ITC will also reduce

In the new changes, attention is also being given to Input Tax Credit i.e. ITC. If you understand in simple language, when a businessman buys goods for his business, he pays GST on it. According to the rules, he can take credit of this tax and use it in the GST charged on his sales.

But if there is a difference in the information about purchase and sale, there may be difficulty in taking ITC. The government wants to make it easier for businessmen to match their purchase and sale bills and tax information. This will help in correcting mistakes and depositing correct tax. The new system of GST returns is planned to be implemented from April 1, 2027. However, before this the government will examine the suggestions received from businessmen.
