(Alkesh Patel) Rivoi News, October 24, 2026 – errors in Gujarat's textbooks published by Gujarat government'Gujarat SamayikIn “Diwali Issue” Aziz TankarviWhile the controversy over the controversial poem insulting Hindutva has not been resolved yet, in one of the episodes of 'Sandar Chhaa', an issue regarding Rabindranath Tagore's poetry has come to our attention.
Textbook writers and editors have been a matter of concern many times across the country including Gujarat. It doesn't explain why such writers are allowed to write textbook chapters who often have no knowledge of the true history! Many times it is also seen that Jihadi shade is added to the topics related to Hindu social system or Hindu religion.
I often have conversations about books with my avid reader friend Hemangbhai Parekh from Valsad. Yesterday, on Friday night, 23rd October, he sent a photo and asked if this is true? His question was about Rabindranath Tagore's poem Walk Alone.
Gambhir Chabardo:
Even in the six-and-a-half line discussion about Rabindranath Tagore's poem, which was included in Nanakda Fakra only as a trivia, its author has no knowledge of history and hence, going ahead, it was shocking to know that the editor of the book also has no knowledge of history.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi came to India in 1915. When Rabindranath Tagore wrote his poem “Ekala Chalo” in 1905. There is a gap of ten years between these two incidents, yet the ignorant author of the textbook has associated this poem with Gandhiji.
There is nothing wrong in having feelings about Gandhi, but associating such things with Gandhi that he does not find offensive would be considered as a disservice to the history of India.
Regarding this, Mr. Harshadbhai Yagnik, an expert in Bengali literature and history and once a teacher of Narendrabhai Modi,When asked about Revoin said thatactually Rabindranath Tagore's Walk Alone poem.bangbhang“It was written in those times. At that time (1905 to 1908) people were agitating to save Bengal and were also hanged. Rabindranath to describe the tragic situation and support the agitators.”walk alone“Was composed poetry.
What is more shocking in this entire incident is that the person who has written so much about Rabindranath Tagore does not even know the true title of his poetry. poetry of shri thakur walk alone And everyone who has read a little bit knows about the song Akela Chalo, but the author of this textbook from Gujarat does not even know the real title. amne go alone…has written.
you are teaching false history
Not knowing history is not a crime. It is not necessary for every writer, editor and editor to have all the knowledge, but the point here is that you are teaching false history to sixth grade students.
Despite the fact that the history is clear, Gujarati's sixth standard textbook, this Chabardo, should not be considered small. This should be considered a serious mistake regarding history. Who will be held responsible for such a historical mistake? A writer or editor who then publishes it without cross-checking?
