New Delhi. Due to air pollution, girls are becoming young early, which is very worrying. This has come to light in the study of scientists of Emory and Harvard Universities. The study, based on information obtained from more than 5,200 girls aged 10 to 17 years, revealed that where air pollution level was very high, girls started menstruation at an earlier age.
According to a study published in the prestigious journal Environmental Health Perspectives, girls experienced menstruation for the first time at the age of 12 years and 3 months. Girls who were exposed to more than four micrograms per cubic meter of excess PM 2.5 particles before birth or during childhood were found to have higher rates of premature onset of menstruation. During the study, these girls were exposed to 4.8 to 32.2 micrograms per cubic meter of PM 2.5. At the same time, the average level of PM 10 was recorded at 21.9 micrograms per cubic meter.
More health problems as you grow older
The study also revealed that girls who start menstruation early are more likely to develop health problems when they grow up. The results of the study show that due to this, the risk of gynecological diseases, heart diseases, diabetes and cancer may increase in these girls in future.
this is the reason
Senior researcher Prof. According to Audrey Gaskins, when girls are young, pollution has a serious impact on them. The rapid chemical changes they experience in the environment can actually be important in determining how fast they grow. That means it affects the speed of their physical development.
India may be more affected
The study is based on research conducted on girls in America, but in countries like India and Bangladesh where air pollution is extremely severe, it can affect the health of girls even more. In such a situation, there is a need to seriously consider the increasing pollution, because now in countries like India, the pollution which was a problem in cities, has moved to villages and small towns.
