There was a controversy going on in the country for the last few days regarding ethanol mixed petrol. Earlier, 20 percent ethanol mixed petrol (E20) was approved by the government. Now the Central Government has approved fuel containing 100 percent ethanol (E100). Along with this, the government has increased the weight limit of light vehicles running on petrol and diesel to 3,500 kg.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a gazette notification regarding the use of ethanol. At present, 20 percent ethanol mixed petrol is available at petrol pumps across the country. Similarly, fuel with 100 percent ethanol may also be available in the coming days. For your information, let us tell you that ethanol is a type of fuel, which is made from sugarcane, grains and maize. Ethanol fuel is also used in America and Brazil. Now the question arises that what effect will increasing the amount of ethanol in petrol have on vehicles? Let us know.

In which vehicles will E100 be used?
100 percent ethanol can only be used in vehicles that have been specifically designed and certified to use high ethanol fuel. Use of E100 in normal petrol cars can cause harm.
This amendment of the Central Government can prove beneficial for those automobile companies which are planning to launch cars running on 100 percent ethanol in future. Along with this, farmers cultivating sugarcane can also get benefit, because ethanol is made from sugarcane.

What will happen with this decision?
After getting the approval from the government, the way has been legally cleared for the companies and now they will be able to launch E100 i.e. vehicles running completely on ethanol in the market. It remains to be seen whether companies make separate engines for ethanol or upgrade the same old engines accordingly.
