Technology News : Google is testing a new change to its Search page. According to media reports, the company is removing the dedicated AI Mode button from the Search Bar for some users. However, this is currently considered a limited test. This does not mean, Google is disabling AI Mode for all users. Other users can still see the button.
Len Raleigh shared this information in a post on X. He said, Google has removed AI Mode shortcut from Incognito mode and Search Bar in Chrome. This information was also revealed in a report by Search Engine Roundtable.
Raleigh also clarified that this change is not visible everywhere. The AI Mode button was still visible on his other computers and in different sessions. This suggests that Google is testing this change with some select users. Google has not yet provided any official information about this test. The Company makes minor changes to the search design and features from time to time. By doing so, it tries to understand, what kind of interface users prefer and what features they use the most.
Is Google Preparing to Remove AI Mode?
According to the report, through this test, Google may want to understand how people use the feature when the AI mode button is not present on the search bar. However, it would be wrong to say that the company is going to remove the AI mode from this. This change has been observed at a limited level and has not been independently confirmed. Currently, there is no indication that Google is planning to permanently remove the AI Mode shortcut.
What is Google’s AI mode?
In May 2025, Google added an AI mode button to Search. This allows users to directly access Google’s AI-powered search feature. Instead of typing in individual words like in a normal search, users can ask detailed questions. AI mode provides answers based on information from multiple sources.
Its special feature is that, after receiving the answer, users can also ask other related questions. This means, there is no need to search again every time, and a topic can be better understood in a single conversation. Google made AI mode available in India in June 2025. It also added the ability to ask questions via voice and images.
Since then, the company has also added new features such as integration with third-party applications and services. Currently, removing the AI mode button seems to be limited to a test only. So, users don’t need to worry about this feature being turned off completely.
