Tezzbuzz Desk- The effect of rising inflation in Bengaluru is now clearly visible on the hotel industry as well. After the increase in the prices of many daily used food items including rice, milk, curd and pulses, many hotels in the city have increased their menu prices. The change in prices varies from hotel to hotel, but at many places the rates of menu items have been increased by 10 to 15 percent. This has put additional burden on the pockets of people eating outside.
PC Rao, president of Greater Bengaluru Hoteliers Association, said that in the last one month, the price of rice has increased from Rs 65 per kg to Rs 95 per kg in some places. Apart from this, the prices of pulses have also increased. Due to increase in cost of milk and curd, the cost of hoteliers has increased further. Hotel owners say that amid the ever-increasing costs, it has become necessary to change the menu prices to save business from loss.
The prices of tea and coffee have also been increased in many hotels in Bengaluru. An average increase of Rs 3 to 5 has been seen in these. At the same time, in some places, dosa which was available for around Rs 100 has now reached Rs 110 to 115. However, not all hotels have increased prices in the same manner. Some hotels are increasing prices only on selected items.
Customers have expressed displeasure over this increase in prices. He says that despite the increase in the price of milk by Rs 8 per liter, it does not seem appropriate to increase the price of a cup of tea or coffee by Rs 5. Hoteliers say that due to the continuous increase in the prices of raw materials, they are left with limited options other than increasing prices.
