IPL 2027 Impact Player Rule: A big update has come out regarding the most controversial rule of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Impact Player Rule. Many veteran players and coaches have raised questions regarding this rule. In such a situation, there was discussion about removing this rule. However, now reports have come out that these rules will remain applicable in the next season also. According to reports, there is every possibility that this rule will remain intact in the IPL 2027 season.
The Governing Council of IPL has not yet formally issued any letter to all the 10 franchises. However, all the teams are preparing for the mini auction keeping this rule in mind. If this rule is removed now, the strategy of all the teams may get spoiled. In such a situation, the Impact Player Rule is expected to remain in force for at least one more season i.e. till IPL 2027.
Impact player rule will not be removed in IPL 2027
IPL 2027 will be the last season before the mega auction. In such a situation, any change in this rule can affect the equation of IPL franchises. A senior IPL official says that withdrawing the rules so late will prove harmful for the teams’ strategies. At least 4 franchises have made it clear to the board that if this rule is removed now, their team balance and auction plans will be adversely affected. This clearly means that this rule will remain applicable in IPL 2027 also.
What is the impact player rule?
The Impact Player Rule was implemented for the first time in IPL 2023. After this the entire picture of IPL changed. Under this rule, any team can drop one player from its playing-11 during the match and field a new player from among the 5 substitutes given at the time of toss. This new player can both bat and bowl normally. Under this rule, both teams use 12 players instead of 11. This strengthens the bowling attack of the team and also provides depth to the batting. However, many players and cricket experts have also criticized this rule.
Why is the rule being opposed?
With the introduction of the impact player rule, teams can field an extra batsman or bowler at any time. Its direct impact is on all-rounders. An all-rounder gives balance to the team, who can both bowl and bat. However, with the introduction of the impact player rule, the need for all-rounders reduced. Not only this, after the introduction of this rule, due to the presence of more batsmen, the bowlers are getting hit a lot. For this reason it is being opposed.
