Big bang at the box office with the release of Ramayana, despite a great opening, the film lagged behind Dhurandhar 2 and Adipurush.

New Delhi. Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, one of the long-awaited and grand films of Bollywood, has finally been released in theaters on 5 November 2026. There was tremendous excitement among the audience for a long time about this film starring big stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. The first day box office figures of this film, made with a huge budget of around Rs 1600 crore, have sparked a new debate in the film industry. The film has collected a net collection of Rs 64.85 crore in India on the first day of its release. The film had a strong opening in terms of earnings but failed to break the opening day records of many big films. Especially compared to Dhurandhar 2 and Prabhas's Adipurush, Ramayan's first day earnings were less.

Advance booking of the film was started about 15 days before its release. After the sale of tickets started on the occasion of Dussehra, the interest of the audience continued to increase. Advance bookings picked up after the ongoing dispute between theater owners and distributors was resolved. According to the report, before its release, tickets worth about Rs 200 crores of the film had been sold worldwide. It was expected that Ramayana could make a big record at the box office on the very first day. Morning shows also remained housefull in many cities of India.

According to preliminary data from Saknilk, the film made a total gross collection of Rs 77.50 crore at the Indian box office while the net earning was Rs 64.85 crore. The biggest contribution in this was from the Hindi version which earned Rs 47.50 crore. The Telugu version earned Rs 6 crore and the Kannada version earned Rs 7.25 crore. Apart from this, there was a business of Rs 2.60 crore in Tamil and Rs 1.50 crore in Malayalam. Despite Yash playing Ravana in the film, the Kannada version performed slower than expected.

Ramayan left many films behind in terms of first day earnings. It surpassed the opening figures of Pathan's Rs 57 crore and Animal's Rs 63 crore. It even surpassed the first day collection of Drishyam 2. However, Shahrukh Khan's Jawan had earned around Rs 75 crore on the first day while Adipurush surprised everyone with an opening of Rs 86.75 crore. Dhurandhar 2, released this year, had earned around Rs 102 crore on the first day. Ramayan could not break the records of these films.

The star cast of the film is also its biggest feature. Ranbir Kapoor is seen in the role of Lord Ram while Sai Pallavi has played the role of Mother Sita. Yash has played the role of Ravana and Ravi Dubey is seen in the role of Laxman. Sunny Deol is seen in the role of Lord Hanuman. The film is produced by Namit Malhotra's company Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations.

  • There are plans to release Ramayana in two parts. The first part has reached theaters on 5 November 2026 while the second part will be released in Diwali 2028. Now the biggest challenge before the film is to maintain the initial excitement and increase the pace of earnings in the coming days. The first day's figures have definitely indicated a strong start but there is still a long way to go at the box office for this film with a budget of Rs 1600 crore.
