New Delhi. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Karnataka Congress President and MLC BK Hariprasad on Saturday said they attended the Diwali Milan function organized at the residence of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

Both the leaders also shared pictures of their Diwali reunion with Rahul Gandhi and national leaders. BK Hariprasad said he extended special Diwali wishes to Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi during the function.

The Karnataka Congress chief said the event was attended by senior Congress leaders, MPs and other prominent leaders from various states of the country. He said he had cordial discussions with several party leaders present at the function and exchanged views on current political developments in the country.

BK Hariprasad in his statement said that the Diwali meet provided an opportunity to Congress leaders from different states to interact and discuss the current political situation.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi were among the prominent leaders present at the special gathering, where Congress leaders exchanged festival greetings and informally discussed political developments.

Responding to media queries late on Friday night in New Delhi, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had said, “Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has wished Diwali to party leaders and workers, spreading the message of unity, peace and love.”

Answering questions about his discussion with Rahul Gandhi and current political developments, CM Shivkumar said that Rahul Gandhi's political campaign is not just a personal campaign but it is the country's campaign and the voice of the people.

CM Shivakumar said, “The history of the Congress is the history of the country and the strength of the Congress is the strength of the country. Whenever the Congress party has been in power, it has ensured that everything is shared equally among every section of the society. Continuing this tradition is our biggest strength.”

Responding to a question on linking Voter ID with beneficiary schemes, the Chief Minister said, “We have many issues to discuss. I am also part of the government and there are many aspects on this matter which need to be discussed. I will speak about it after the discussion.”
