After a hit like Straw, Taraji P. Henson and Tyler Perry are collaborating again on their upcoming film Give Me Some Sugah, which releases on Netflix soon. Apart from these two movies, Henson and Perry have worked on three more projects. Tyler Perry is producing Give Me Some Sugah, and Tasha Smith is directing it.

Give Me Some Sugah hits Netflix next month

Taraji P. Henson and Tyler Perry’s upcoming collaboration, Give Me Some Sugah, will be released on Netflix on December 16.

Directed by Tasha Smith and produced by Perry, the movie is written by Randy Brown. It is based on the real-life story of baker Lenore Lindsey and her life struggles. The logline provided by Netflix reads, “When a Chicago woman risks it all to open her dream bakery, a fateful encounter rewards her leap of faith. Inspired by the true story of Lenore Lindsey.”

Besides Henson, the movie features a talented cast including Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, aka Joey Bada$$, Russell Hornsby, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Semaj Prather, Alexis Louder, Caroline Avery Granger, DeVon Franklin, and many more. A first look at Henson as a bakery owner, Netflix released Lenore in September. Give Me Some Sugah will be Perry and Henson’s second collaboration this year.

Henson previously starred in Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, which was released on September 9.

While speaking with People about joining the project, Henson said, “What moved me most was Lenore’s resilience and tenacity. She had a door slammed in her face professionally, and instead of letting that be the end of her story, she found the courage to go after a dream she had buried for 30 years. That takes something.” Henson added that Lenore’s faith “ultimately brought her to a discovery she never could have imagined. You just never know what’s waiting on the other side of taking that leap.”
