Singapore-Based Executive Threatened Before Police, Shot Dead Hours Later In Faridabad Parking Dispute

Chandigarh: A threat made in front of police was followed by gunfire hours later. Paramjeet Dhankhar, a 42-year-old Singapore-based executive who had returned to Faridabad for Diwali, was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour over a parking dispute—despite having complained to police earlier that day.

Dhankhar, a senior vice-president at Singapore-based FPT Software and former regional business head of Tech Mahindra’s Asia-Pacific operations, was allegedly killed by Monu Sharma alias Mohan after a long-running dispute between the two neighbours. Both lived in the same building in Sector 21C—Dhankhar on the first floor and Sharma on the third.

Threat Before Murder

The conflict escalated after Dhankhar’s son, Shaurya, asked Sharma to repair a broken gate in the building’s parking area. Sharma allegedly reacted angrily and used abusive language, following which Dhankhar went to the Ankhir police post to lodge a complaint.

When police called Sharma to the post, he allegedly threatened Dhankhar in front of officers, saying he would not let him live through the night. Despite the warning, Sharma was not detained. Later that evening, he allegedly called Dhankhar to the parking area and opened fire at him and his son, as reported by The New Indian Express.

Dhankhar was hit by around eight to nine bullets after nearly 14 to 16 rounds were fired. His family rushed him to hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Shaurya survived the attack. Police reached the scene after Shaurya informed them and recovered cartridge shells from the spot.

Arrest And Allegations

Sharma was arrested within hours of the shooting. Based on Shaurya’s complaint, police registered a case against Sharma, his wife Divya, son Mayank, daughter Naina and brother Hetram. Police said the accused used a licensed pistol, and investigators found that he allegedly had three pistols in his possession at the time.

Residents alleged that Sharma had troubled people in the neighbourhood for a long time. They claimed he played loud music late at night, drove luxury cars at high speed, fired shots into the air and created disturbances near a plot he owned close to the building. Some residents said they were afraid to complain and did not know what he did for a living.

Reports also claimed that Sharma faced allegations of GST evasion about a year ago, after which officials conducted a raid at his premises. These allegations have not been independently confirmed by police.

Dhankhar’s friends said the killing could have been prevented if police had detained Sharma after he made the threat at the police post. The allegation has raised concerns about the police response, though the full sequence of events is still under investigation.

Dhankhar’s body was sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem. Police are expected to examine witness statements, forensic evidence, CCTV footage and call records as the investigation continues.
