Punjab News: The politics of the state has heated up after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on the premises of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amandeep Kaur Arora in Punjab. Punjab Finance Minister and senior AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding this action. He said that the central government is using the investigating agencies to intimidate opposition leaders and put pressure on them. At the same time, no official reply has come from BJP on these allegations.
Harpal Cheema made serious allegations against BJP
Harpal Singh Cheema held a press conference with MLA Amandeep Kaur Arora in Chandigarh on 6 November. During this, he said that whenever elections come near in any state, central investigative agencies are used by BJP against opposition leaders.
Cheema alleged that efforts are being made to intimidate opposition leaders and weaken them politically through agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax Department. He also alleged that AAP MLAs are being given offers like ministerial posts and making them Rajya Sabha members in exchange for leaving the party.
Investigation continued for about 48 hours on the whereabouts of Amandeep Kaur Arora
In fact, on November 4, ED had raided seven locations of AAP MLA from Moga, Punjab, Amandeep Kaur Arora and people associated with her. In this action, her residence, office, the hospital associated with her husband and the locations of other family members were searched.
This investigation was conducted in a case related to alleged manipulation of government land records and wrong payment of compensation. The case is related to the FIR of Punjab Police registered in June 2024. It is alleged that the government land acquired for the construction of National Highway-754A was shown in the name of a woman through false documents and in return a compensation of about Rs 1.006 crore was issued.
MLA accused of pressurizing him to join BJP
After the ED action ended, Amandeep Kaur Arora claimed that during the investigation, she was told to join BJP and get a ministerial post in the future. She said that she will not leave AAP and join any other party. He also accused the investigating agency of harassing his family.
The MLA also said that she will cooperate fully in the investigation and will be available for re-interrogation if needed.
ED gave a separate statement regarding the recovered documents
There is a difference in the claims of ED and AAP in this matter. Harpal Cheema and Amandeep Kaur Arora claimed that no incriminating documents or money were found in the raid. However, on November 7, the ED refuted this claim and said that during the search, original registries, alleged fake death certificate, property related documents, electronic devices and other evidence were recovered.
According to the ED, the investigation has also revealed a case of alleged wrongful transfer of lands of government, municipal corporation and charitable institutions to the MLA's relatives and other people. The agency is examining these documents.
Political controversy increases before 2027 assembly elections
This action has increased the political confrontation between AAP and BJP ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in Punjab. AAP is calling it an action to target opposition leaders, while ED says that its investigation is going on in the case of financial irregularities related to land.
At present the investigation of the case is going on. The situation of this entire matter may become more clear with the further action of the investigating agency and the facts coming to light in the coming days.
