Historic chapter in India-Moldova relations, agreement reached on trade, agriculture, health and education cooperation in the meeting of President Murmu and Maia Sandu
New Delhi .Indian President Draupadi Murmu reached Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, in the first leg of her three-nation state visit and held summit talks with its President Maia Sandu. In the meeting between the two leaders, bilateral relations between India and Moldova were comprehensively reviewed and new opportunities to further strengthen cooperation in various fields were discussed in detail. This visit is being considered an important and historic milestone for the relations between the two countries.
President Murmu was formally welcomed at the Presidential Palace in Chisinau. He was given a guard of honor and a state ceremony was held as per the national honor of both the countries. President Maia Sandu welcomed him warmly and reiterated his commitment to take the growing cooperation and trust between the two countries to new heights.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed wide-ranging political, economic, trade and cultural relations between India and Moldova. Both sides agreed to make existing cooperation more effective as well as explore the possibilities of new partnerships. In the talks, emphasis was also laid on joint efforts to increase cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
President Draupadi Murmu said that this first state visit by an Indian President to Moldova is a historic achievement in the relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that this visit will provide new strength to the growing trust, friendship and long-term cooperation between India and Moldova. He described mutual respect and the spirit of shared development between the two countries as a strong basis for future partnership.
During this visit, President Murmu is also proposed to meet with the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, Igor Grosu. In addition, she will interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. The itinerary also includes addressing a business forum with the business community and meeting members of the Indian community living in Moldova. The objective of these programs is to further strengthen economic and social relations between the two countries.
There is ample potential for cooperation between India and Moldova in areas such as agriculture, health services, pharmaceutical industry, information technology and education. Both countries also stressed the need to promote investment, technological exchange and institutional cooperation in these areas. Experts believe that increasing partnership in these areas can provide long-term benefits to both the countries.
