A massive fire broke out in the engine of a Swiss Air flight carrying 232 passengers at Delhi airport, 6 passengers injured.

New Delhi: A major accident occurred at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport late on Saturday night. Swiss Air flight LX147 was going from Delhi to Zurich. When the plane was running on the runway for take-off, its engine number 1 suddenly caught fire. At that time the speed of the aircraft was about 104 knots. The pilot, showing very quick thinking, immediately canceled the take-off and stopped the plane on the runway. There were a total of 232 passengers on board the plane.

Passengers evacuated from emergency slide

Emergency procedures were started immediately after the fire. All the passengers were taken out of the plane through the emergency slide. Six passengers were injured during this process. The injured were immediately taken to Medanta Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

The lives of all the passengers were saved, but the incident frightened everyone. The Swiss Air team has formed a task force to accommodate the passengers in safe hotels and make arrangements for their onward travel.

Flights affected due to runway closure

Due to this accident, runway number 28 of Delhi Airport has been closed. This has affected the timing of many other flights. The airport authority has deployed additional staff to increase passenger convenience.
